What is a Trademark ?
A trademark is a unique symbol or word(s) used to represent goods and services of one person from that of another. It may be a name, word, phrase, logo, symbol, design, image or a combination of these elements. PROCEDURE TO REGISTER A TRADEMARK
Search
A thorough trademark search needs to be conducted before filing an application for registration of a trademark. A trademark search determines whether the proposed mark for registration is available or not.

Application
If the trademark is available the application needs to be filed before the jurisdictional trademarks registry.

Examination
A trademark examiner will examine the trademark and post the examination report. If any objections are raised in the examination report, the applicant needs to respond to the objections. If the Registrar is satisfied with the response filed to the objections he will publish the trademark in the Journal.

Publication in Journal
After publication, any third-party can object to the registration of the trademark, if they find that the trademark might infringe their mark. After resolution of the third-party opposition the trademark will be registered.

DURATION FOR REGISTRATION

The whole Trademark registration process takes up to 15 to 18 months in a straight forward case, i.e without any objections or oppositions after filing the application. The IPR Policy 2016 has reduced the time for registration of trademark considerably.
